Goldie May, your genealogy research assistantGoldie May is a genealogy research assistant. While you're researching your family history, Goldie May guides you through the process and provides help where you're stuck. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced genealogist, Goldie May can make you a faster, more efficient researcher.

Do you write names and dates on paper or look at previous tabs while you're researching? Goldie May simplifies this. Goldie May is a Chrome extension which gives you a second window. You can do your research in the left window with Goldie May in the right window.

It all starts with an objective. What do you want to learn or discover? Create a new objective to get started, whether broad or specific. Then Goldie May gives you several suggested research tasks to get you started and helps you stay focused. You can add more tasks as you go.

You can learn about the specific places where your ancestor lived to understand what records are available for that time and place. For example, if your ancestor married in Madison County, Iowa in 1850, it's helpful to know that marriage records weren't collected by the county until 1855, so you may not find a county marriage record for your ancestor. (Check local church records!) Second, the courthouse was destroyed by fire in 1875 so the records inside may be lost. Some of Madison's neighboring counties are Adair and Clarke so you may want to check those too.

With Goldie May, you can be sure you've checked every census for your ancestor's lifetime. For example, if your ancestor lived from 1825 to 1865, you'll be prompted to check the U.S census for the years 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860. Goldie May does the math, telling you what age your ancestor was at the time of each census. In the future, Goldie May will work with state censuses and collections from around the world.

While you research, Goldie May automatically creates a research log, saving your searches and visits to all websites. This includes visits to FamilySearch.org, Ancestry.com, Google, or anywhere else you go online. In your research log, you can comment on what you have found or mark particular pages as helpful or not helpful.

In addition to logging every site you visit, you can also take screenshots of paragraphs or images you find helpful and save them to your log. Want to save a clip of an original census record? Take a screenshot and save it to your log.

When you're done, close the objective. All your work is saved for next time. When you return to your objective, you'll see your task list and the research log of the sites you previously visited. You'll love how Goldie May provides structure and direction to your research.

While Goldie May logs all websites, it currently requires a FamilySearch account to sign in. In the future you'll be able to sign in without a FamilySearch account.
